Juliet (resident Chef) purchased the almost derelict former hotel in 2003. Her links to Goolwa’s past fuelled her enthusiasm to renovate the heritage-listed building – her great, great grandfather had been Mayor of Goolwa in 1876!

Juliet literally interpreted the building’s original name “The Australasian” by stylishly fusing the heritage Colonial Australian features with classical and modern Asian design by blending the old with new, glass with stone, wood with stainless steel and Australian with Asian. Juliet’s aim, along with Deborah (Concierge), was to create five uniquely “Australasian” suites with stunning ensuites, a grand restaurant and a light-filled lobby – in essence, a private luxury couples-only “destination”.

The Australasian Circa 1858 is an award-winning, boutique private hotel offering luxury Goolwa accommodation only 70 minutes from Adelaide. It offers five totally unique, modern Asian-themed suites, daily room servicing, concierge and Chef-prepared breakfasts - delivered discreetly to your door on a tray-mobile.

The Australasian Dining Room is exclusively for house guests except for our popular public Saturday night, when Chef Juliet Michell presents a three course, Asian-inspired set menu.
